The Next Chapter

A private community for business owners thinking about what's next: buying, selling, transitioning to family, or building a stronger business for the future.

Built for owners who want to prepare earlier, make smarter decisions and avoid costly mistakes before major business transitions arrive.

Co-hosted by The Business Management Co. and Topspin Finance

Every business owner has a next chapter. Most of us plan it alone.

Maybe it's a sale in a couple of years. Maybe it's handing it to family or someone on your team. Maybe you're the one looking to buy. Or maybe you just know you don't want to be doing it exactly like this forever.

Who do you actually talk to about it? Not your team. Not your clients. Your accountant sees the numbers, but not the whole picture.

It's lonely at the top. It doesn't have to be.

The Next Chapter is for established business owners who are 1–5 years away from…

  • Selling. You want to know what makes a business worth buying, and start building it now.

  • Passing it to family or a successor. You want it to land well for the people taking it on, and the team and clients who rely on it.

  • Buying a business. Your first or your next one.

  • Not sure yet. You don't have a date, but you know having options starts with a stronger business.

What you get as a founding member

  • A private Slack community to ask questions, share resources and connect with other owners.

  • A welcome call on November 26 at 12pm ET to meet the founding group and help set the direction.

  • Peers at your stage. Owners at a similar stage, size of business and industry, so the conversations are actually useful.

  • Access to experts. Directional guidance so you know what's available and who to talk to.

  • Two hosts covering both sides of readiness. Caroline on the finance side. Amy on the operations side.

  • Confidentiality. Every member is interviewed first. What's shared here stays here.

Founding membership is free. We're building this with our founding members, and in exchange we'll ask for your honest feedback on what's most valuable.

Meet your hosts

Amy Sussex, The Business Management Co.

I help founder-led businesses become less dependent on the founder, so you have options. I was inside a business when the founder prepared it for sale, and I stayed on after it sold. None of what the new owner needed showed up in the numbers. All of it showed up the day someone else owned the business. I'm also the host of The Exit Ready Business Podcast.

Caroline, Topspin Finance

Caroline is the founder of Topspin Finance, a fractional CFO firm based in Toronto and St. Thomas. She works with businesses doing $1M to $25M in revenue, giving owners a whole finance function, from bookkeeping and reporting to CFO-level leadership, without building it all in-house. Her focus is helping owners improve cash flow, strengthen profitability and make better decisions, including preparing for what comes next: selling, transitioning to family, or building a more valuable company.

Why together? Everyone says get your finances in order before you sell. That's only half of it. Between us, we cover both halves.

Your next chapter deserves a plan. And people to plan it with.
